[applause] so our topic is copyright and the book. very small topic. copyright and the book, authors, publishers and the public interest. i want to reflect on the title for a moment. copyright and the book is at its core a discussion about the public interest. with arthur's and publishers as part of the public interest. i would underscore that because in the more recent conversations, in political circles, it sometimes teed up as a conversation where publishers and authors are somehow and difficult to or at least in competition with the goals of the public and that is not the foundational history of copyright law in united states. we will talk about incentivizing authors, evaluating publishers, serving readers, protecting freedom of expression. we are also going to
